Considerations

All our in-person lessons are held in our purpose built Alexander Studio. The Studio provides a safe and friendly place to come and learn. It is set in a beautiful landscaped Blue Mountains garden.  We’re sorry but our studio isn’t accessible by wheelchair. There are a number of gentle steps to reach the studio. If you have significant knee or leg pain you may want to speak with Michael before your lesson. Call him on 0448 406 881 to discuss. There is limited on-street parking. The Studio is air-conditioned for all-year comfort in your Alexander lesson. The studio has toilet facilities.  Michael will usually meet you before your lesson to help you find the studio easily. Please note the studio is in a residential area and not in a shopping centre. We accept most major credit and debit cards via our Square cash terminal. You are also welcome to pay cash.  If you are coming to a Saturday workshop, check whether lunch is provided. If not you may wish to bring some lunch with you. Tea, coffee and biscuits/cake are always provided at Saturday workshops.

Somatic teaching involves some hands on guidance

Learning Alexander Technique is empowering and enjoyable. There is some gentle hands on guidance that is part of teaching Alexander Technique. You teacher will warn you of hands on touch and ask for your permission to use hands on guidance. This ensures that the learning experience is safe, professional and respectful. We abide by the AUSTAT Code of Professional Conduct to ensure that lessons are always a positive  experience for you.  Please wear sensible clothing for your lesson. Students usually lie down on a table as a part of the lesson. Students remain clothed at all times in a lesson.

Reasonable adjustments

If you have learning difficulties, neuro-divergence, past-trauma or other issues that may impact your learning please feel free to discuss these with your teacher before the lesson. Your teacher is familiar with reasonable adjustments that can be made to facilitate your learning experience. Where a student is under 18 years old we insist that a parent is present during the course of the lesson.

It is appropriate for students to observe good hygiene including the use of deodorants before a lesson. As there is hands on guidance, please bring dry clothing if you have been exercising and/or sweating heavily before a lesson.

Alexander Technique is a skillset that you learn

Your Alexander lesson is just 60 minutes out of over 10,000 minutes per week. To really benefit from Alexander lessons we suggest that you practice some Alexander skills each day. 10,000 minutes practice would be too much and 60 minutes would not be enough. It’s important to think about the Alexander skills, practice them and provide feedback to your teacher.
