As a music educator I have extensive knowledge in performance practice across mainstream genres and a depth of experience in instrumental teaching.
As well as a lifelong study of piano, with qualifications from Sydney University and study in London and Manchester, I have also trained as an Alexander Technique teacher.
I am the only Licensed Body Mapping Educator in Australia. The Association for Body Mapping Educators is a not-for-profit organisation registered in the USA that licenses highly trained individuals to teach Body Mapping to musicians.
Integrating this with a sophisticated approach to how movement and manner of physical-use impacts upon performance gives my teaching a unique tone.

I began teaching the Alexander Technique in 1991, drawn to the remarkable way conscious thought, movement and physiology can be brought together. The work offered me a clear, evidence‑based way to approach my own movement, and in doing so it freed me from the tension and anxiety that had shaped much of my early life.
That experience set the course for my professional life.Over the decades I have worked with many thousands of people across a wide range of ages, backgrounds and performance needs. This long practice has shown me, again and again, how ideas can change lives. The Technique gives people a way to understand themselves with clarity and kindness, and it has been a privilege to help others discover that.
Alongside my teaching, I developed substantial qualifications in adult education, leadership, management, vocational training and WHS. These studies shaped the way I think about pedagogy. They encouraged me to look closely at how Alexander’s discoveries can be taught in a structured, contemporary and accessible way.
From this concern I developed a Standard for Training Teachers of the Alexander Technique that integrates Alexander’s original process with 21st‑century adult learning principles.My commitment to the profession also led to extensive service within AUSTAT.
I served as Chairperson on five occasions between 2003 and 2023, contributing to the Society’s development and supporting the growth of the Australian teaching community. After many years in that role, I chose to step away and focus on advancing teacher training through my own evolving pedagogical framework.
Today, I train Alexander Technique teachers and continue to refine the educational architecture that supports their development. My aim is to keep learning, keep evolving, and to encourage others to benefit from the extraordinary process of personal discovery that FM Alexander began more than a century ago.
